Adding your url to the Dmoz search directory.

The Open Directory uses volunteer editors to catalog the web. Formerly known as NewHoo, it was launched in June 1998. It was acquired by AOL Time Warner-owned Netscape in November 1998, and the company pledged that anyone would be able to use information from the directory through an open license arrangement.

To submit your website to the Open Directory you would do as you do to any search directory. You make a search using a keyword phrase within your website and you submit your website to the category that shows you the best results. For example your keyword phrase might be "car rentals in Paris", because you have a car rental franchise in the centre of Paris.

The dmoz search results would look like this:

From this search result you would be able to submit your site to three categories (in red) that have an add url in the top right hand header.TIP: From my experience always select a category that has an editor. Usually after I have submitted a website I will send a personal email to that editor introducing myself and giving them a bit of praise for a job well done. The when they reply you have their email address for any further correspondence about your website.

Add your url to the Google Directory by submitting through the Dmoz Search Directory.

Un like its general webpage search engine the Google Directory is fed primarily from the Dmoz Directory. You submit your website to the Google Directory exactly the same as you would to Dmoz. Make a search using your keyword phrases and then submit to the categories that show the best results.
For example your keyword phrase might be "car rentals in Paris", because you have a car rental franchise in the centre of Paris. The search results would look like this:

BEAU-PARIS Apartment Paris Rental
Category: Regional > Europe > ... > Lodging > Vacation Rentals
Family-owned apartment rental.

From this search result you would be able to submit your site to two categories (in red) and you can add your url by scrolling to the bottom of the page and select the "Submit a site link"

Add your website url to the Yahoo Directory.

Getting listed on Yahoo should be without doubt one of the most important missions on any Internet marketers mind. Yahoo is the biggest of all the search engines, well actually that's not true, you see Yahoo is not technically a search engine it is a human compiled directory of websites and does not have a spider bot going to sites and indexing them. But for the sake of this article when I say search engines I am referring to all 'search sites'.

Add your web pages to MSN Search.

The great and often-quoted baseball player Yogi Berra once said: “You can observe a lot by just watching.” That's what I have been doing with the new MSN search engine that was recently launched with a lot of fanfare. I observed two interesting things with MSN which I would like to pass on to you.

If you put a keyword rich paragraph near the top of the page, either in the first or second paragraph, then your page “may” do well in search requests for the keywords in that paragraph.
